What is Laser Safety?

The UCR Laser Safety program ensures the safe use of lasers to minimize the risk of laser accidents, since relatively small amounts of laser light can lead to permanent eye injuries. The UCR Radiation Safety Committee approves the use of Class 3B and 4 lasers.

If you are a new user of a class 3b or 4 laser you must do the following:

Complete Laser Safety training online. (Must be completed prior to working with 3b or 4 lasers). This includes the Primary Investigator as well as anyone that will be using the laser.
Submit a Laser Machine Registration Application and an SOP form to Radiation Safety. There should be a separate SOP form for each laser listed on the Laser Machine Registration form. The completed application will be reviewed by the Radiation Safety Committee.
